The Impact of Human Connection: Why Relationships Are Vital to Our Well-being

A few weeks ago, I felt unmotivated, lacking energy, and had no drive to exercise, clean my home, or deal with work burnout, much like anyone else might experience. This feeling persisted for about a month.

Last weekend, I was amazed at how energetic I felt. I was back to my old self. I stayed at home, organized closets, rearranged furniture in both the spare and master bedrooms, cleaned, and took a long walk with a friend. It was wonderful to feel mentally healthy.

During my nesting phase, I also went through holiday and note cards that held special meaning for me. I discovered one that was especially significant. I had met a woman at the Loretto Chapel, where I currently work. She lived thousands of miles away. She had recently lost her father, and at the same time, I had lost my daughter in a car accident. As we both grieved, we developed a profound, spiritual, and human connection. She visited the chapel often that week, feeling her father's spirit there. We acknowledged each other during each visit, giving her the space to pray and sense her father's presence. This took place nearly six years ago.

Today, she stopped by my office. Was it a coincidence? No. I wasn't surprised at all. It felt like we called each other to reunite and update one another. We continue to pray for each other and for our departed family members. This time, she wasn't by herself; she brought along others who are significant to her to experience her cherished place.

My advice is to allow yourself time to simply exist. You will return. You will reestablish connections. These bonds inspire us and reassure us that everything will be alright.
